New running groups
NOTE: Starting December 12, 2009, this group is on hiatus until spring 2010.
==========
After a two-hour search encompassing about a dozen local running groups’ online pages, I found that there are organized training runs in the Baltimore area on every day of the week … except Friday.
That’s about to change.
Next Friday ( May 8 ) and for the foreseeable future, groups will be meeting to run at the East end of the Johns Hopkins lacrosse stadium (near the five flag poles). Runs will start at 7 a.m. and noon, though we may eventually move them to different times if there are a lot of requests — so feel free to revisit and/or comment on this post for change requests and updated details. This is a free training event. Distances will vary depending on the requests of the group.

FOOTNOTE: This is entirely greedy on my part, since I have Fridays off.

Update: Thanks to everyone who has showed up so far. As promised, here are links to our meetup group (which basically just links back to this post), a printable set of handout slips (for recruiting friends while they run) and a pdf for hanging on bulletin boards. Share them around!

I will probably run with you at noon as I already run Friday mornings with Back on My Feet at 5:30. Thank you very much for starting this group up.
Oops! Forgot about the Star Trek opening today which preempts all other obligations. I look forward to seeing you guys next Friday.
Sorry for the belated notice, but I won’t be around for this week’s Friday runs (June 5), as I’ve literally got the Friday runs.
I know. Too much information. Couldn’t resist
See you next week.
Hi! I would like to join if I still can. 12 noon is the best option for me in general. I was a decent runner in the past (10 miler longest distance) but am a bit rusty now, yet eager to get into it again!
Throughout the summer I will be there on & off (two kids home with me) but in the Fall I hope to make it a steady commitment.
OK?
Angie
Sounds good. We meet at noon near the east end of the JHU lacrosse stadium (between the eight-sided walking track and the five flag poles).
Not going to make it this week (week of July 8). Back again soon.

ADDITIONAL: Also only going to make the early run on July 24.
Hi!
Could you perhaps mark the meeting point on google maps and send us the link, in order to make it more easy for people who have just moved to JH to find it?
thx

Sure thing. That’s here: http://www.onfootblog.com/wp/2009/08/16/at-the-request-of-a-commenter/.
You’ll have to zoom in a bit, however, as it appears set to be in God-view by default. I could probably change that, but I’m lazy.
It’s quite likely that I won’t be around at either of the sessions on Friday.
How fast and how far have are you guys going this Friday (9/4) and next Friday (9/11)?
Thanks
Emma,
Sorry for the lag on getting your comment approved — it was initially filtered as spam.
I’ll be at the Run to Remember this week, and I’m urging others to do the same, so there might not be anyone there.
On normal Fridays though, it’s usually pretty laid back. We’ve literally had weeks where we’ve gone at 9-minute pace, and on two Fridays, we stopped and walked to keep a guy’s knee happy (and it was still quite a bit of fun).
That said, I’m sometimes one of only two people there, and in those situations, I can go as fast/far as 12 miles at 6:45 pace if the other person prefers (with pace able to be slightly faster if we go a shorter distance or vice versa). Anything outside of that range starts to hit my limits pretty quickly.
Good luck to anyone running Saturday’s marathon. Because of prep stuff, I won’t be at the usual runs on Friday.
